On Friday night on after dropping the boys off at Croatian School I was stopped by someone and N.K asked me if I had a blog. Wow, I thought how do you know. She was doing a search and came across my VERY sarcastic blog on the church opening. She told me she thought it was funny and wondered why I stopped. I stopped because I was lazy.

Well N.K. openned up a can of worms and I’M BACK!!!!!

Pero Pastuovic 1927-2008

We lost a legend in our Croatian Community this week. Pero Pastuovic picked up our family in 1973 when we came to Oakville by train from Winnipeg. From what I understand we were just one of the many, Pero was the Oakville welcome wagon. Whether you needed a ride or help finding a job or filling out paperwork, he was your man. Just ask Visnja who spent many hours filling out paperwork for the new refugees.

My deepest sympathies to Marija, Sonja, Visnja, Peter, Mirko and Gregory. Along with your fond memories of your father we all have our own. God rest his soul…………

Anger Management

When you occasionally have a really bad day,
And you just need to take it out on someone,
Don’t take it out on someone you know,
Take it out on someone you don’t know,
But you know deserves it.

I was sitting at my desk when I remembered
A phone call I’d forgotten to make.

I found the number and dialed it.

A man answered, saying
‘Hello.’

I politely said,
‘This is Chris.
Could I please speak with Robyn Carter?’

Suddenly a manic voice yelled out in my ear
‘Get the right f***ing number!’
And the phone was slammed down on me.

I couldn’t believe that anyone could be so rude.

When I tracked down Robyn ’s correct number to call her,
I found that I had accidentally transposed the last two digits.

After hanging up with her,
I decided to call the ‘wrong’ number again.

When the same guy answered the phone, I yelled
‘You’re an asshole!’
And hung up.

I wrote his number down with the word ‘asshole’ next to it,
And put it in my desk drawer.

Every couple of weeks,
When I was paying bills or had a really bad day,
I’d call him up and yell,
‘You’re an asshole!’

It always cheered me up.

When Caller ID was introduced,
I thought my theraputic ’asshole’
Calling would have to stop.

So, I called his number and said,
‘Hi, this is John Smith from the telephone company.
I’m calling to see if you’re familiar with our Caller ID Program?’

He yelled
‘NO!’
And slammed down the phone.

I quickly called him back and said,
‘That’s because you’re an asshole!’
And hung up.

One day I was at the store,
Getting ready to pull into a parking Spot.

Some guy in a black BMW
Cut me off and pulled into the spot I had patiently waited for.

I hit the horn and yelled that I’d been waiting for that spot,
But the idiot ignored me.

I noticed a ‘For Sale ‘ sign in his back window,
So I wrote down his number.

A couple of days later,
Right after calling the first asshole
(I had h is number on speed dial,)
I thought that I’d better call the BMW asshole, too.

I said,
‘Is this the man with the black BMW for sale?’

He said,
‘Yes, it is.’

I then asked,
‘Can you tell me where I can see it?’

He said,
‘Yes, I live at 34 Oaktree Blvd , in Fairfax .
It’s a yellow ranch style house and the car’s parked right out in front.’

I asked,
‘What’s your name?’

He said,
‘My name is Don Hansen,’

I asked,
‘When’s a good time to catch you, Don?’

He said,
‘I’m home every evening after five.’

I said,
‘Listen, Don, can I tell you something?’

He said,
‘Yes?’

I said,
‘Don, you’re an asshole!’

Then I hung up,
And added his number to my speed dial, too.

Now, when I had a problem,
I had two assholes to call.

Then I came up with an idea…

I called asshole #1.

He said,
‘Hello.’

I said,
‘You’re an asshole!’
(But I didn’t hang up.)

He asked,
‘Are you still there?’

I said,
‘Yeah!’

He screamed,
‘Stop calling me,’

I said,
‘Make me,’

He asked,
‘Who are you?’

I said,
‘My name is Don Hansen.’

He said,
‘Yeah? Where do you live?’

I said,
‘Asshole, I live at 34 Oaktree Blvd , in Fairfax ,
A yellow ranch style home and
I have a black Beamer parked in front.’

He said,
‘I’m coming over right now, Don.
And you had better start saying your prayers.’

I said,
‘Yeah, like I’m really scared, asshole,’
and hung up.

Then I called Asshole #2.

He said,
‘Hello?’

I said,
‘Hello, asshole,’

He yelled,
‘If I ever find out who you are…’

I said,
‘You’ll what?’

He exclaimed,
‘I’ll kick your ass,’

I answered,
‘Well, asshole, here’s your chance.
I’m coming over right now.’

Then I hung up and immediately called the police,
saying that I lived at 34 Oaktree Blvd , in Fairfax ,
and that I was on my way over there to kill my gay lover.

Then I called Channel 7 News
about the gang war going down in Oaktree Blvd in Fairfax .

I quickly got into my car and headed over to Fairfax .

I got there just in time to watch two assholes
beating the crap out of each other
in front of six cop cars, an overhead news helicopter
and surrounded by a news crew.

NOW I feel much better.

Anger management really does work.

Good One !!!!!!!!!!!!!

PVR My New Best Friend

Since becoming pregnant and feeling the need to go to bed at 9pm every night PVR is my new Best friend. For anybody who does not know what it is, it is attached to your satellite and tapes any show internally.

The new fall season is starting so PVR comes in very handy. Has anybody besides me been watching the new 90210, it’s not bad for cheesy TV and God knows I love cheesy TV.

Last night Lipstick Jungle started its second season. What a great show, not Sex and the City but definitely the closest anyone has come, but not as slutty.

Greys starts tonight, is it me or has the show almost hit its limit. How many times can ugly Dr Grey break up with Dr McDreamy. Tonight of course now that they are almost happy, they are goingf to find out that his last girlfriend is pregnant. They had the worst season finale last year ever!!!

Desperate Housewives starts this Sunday, they are fast forwarding a few years, copying One Tree Hill, another one of my cheesy teenage shows. Did I mention I have been PVRing (sorry Annie) Gossip Girl. Maybe Eva Longoria’s character will be more interesting now that she is 20 pounds heavier on the show.

I don’t know who is more irritating and less deserving of attention Eva Longoria or Jennifer Anniston, I know Mira and Maria are both turning 10 shades of red they both love Jen!!! (at least they used to)

Yesterday I was sitting outside and up pulled Kuma and Pavo and to my delight a Baskin Robbins bag, they give you a big bag when you buy (2) TWO pints of Peanut Butter and Chocolate Ice Cream….. I need to be careful, on Tuesday I went to sleep looking like the girl that can stand to loose 10 pounds and woke up Wednesday with a cantaloupe in my belly, it literally happened over night.

Right now I am blogging and eating Ice Cream at the same time, what a champ…. Thanks Kuma, I am set till the end of the week.

My family told me last night how mean I had been for the first part of my pregnancy, Gogo said he wanted to kill me for about a month and a half though he shouldn’t say much since he will never experience 24 hour nausea and another human being growing in his belly, so I am only apologizing to the females in my life. No Marica, I am not being mean, just realistic.

Sorry guys, hopefully I am getting better but can’t guarantee anything when I begin nightly feedings in March.

Teta Marica is the big winner, last night she delivered my first liter of PB & Chocolate Baskin Robbins Ice Cream. I came home from the doctors to find Kuma and Pavo on my doorstep, she was pondering driving back to where she had googled Baskin Robbins to get the Ice Cream but realized that she would be stuck in unnecessary traffic, maybe unnecessary for her but I would have waited. Nevertheless I got my Ice Cream.

Just a mental note to all, last night I woke up at 1am for the usual pregnancy bladder break and remembered the Ice Cream tucked away in the kitchen freezer, I couldn’t resist. Picture this, 1 am, in my pj’s less ‘gace’of course leaning over the counter and eating my Ice Cream until I was too cold to eat anymore, I got through about 1/4 of the liter and don’t feel guilty. After all it is not me who wanted the Ice Cream it was the baby.

Yesterday I had a doctors appointment and found out that I have only gained 6 pounds, not bad for 16 weeks. Maybe I should cut back on the nightly freezer Ice Cream raids or that may change.

I guess it is time to move on from the poll though I m surprised at how may people were scared to answer. I should give Anna Gr…. a call to see if she is alright because this poll would be right up her alley.

Last night I went to A&P at 8:00 pm because the boys wanted cream cheese and croissants, I of course had neither. You would think that it would be the pregnant women craving things and making people go out at all hours, not in this house. I was walking by the over priced ice cream section, you know where you get a quart for six bucks and there it was chocolate and peanut butter ice cream, I thought I died and went to heaven, I should have known by the name that I would never taste to Peanut Butter. I decided to take it home to try it and to my disappointment it tasted like sh@/!!!!!!!

It is funny I am 16 weeks and 2 days pregnant and none of my so-called friends or seke have thought to go to Baskin Robbins to get me a simple liter of of Peanut Butter and Chocolate Ice Cream. It’s not like I am Annie making Stanko drive in a blizzard to go to Dairy Queen in the middle of the winter.

If you are feeling guilty, it is simple, I have a BIG DEEP freezer and can never have enough of the stuff!!!!! I even attached a photo so nobody could claim they don’t know what it is…………….

Yesterday Teta Marica had a Barbecue in Steve’s honor because he is going home today. The food was fabulous, I even had my potato and bacon salad. The company was the best part, it is always great to have a good dose of Susie and top it off with Annie’s humor. Donnie was late but better late then never.

We were being our usual selves, a little gossip, a little burning and lots of making fun of each other. Fab at 40 started telling a story about something that happened the night before and hence the next and new blog entry we will start having random polls. I need you to be honest when answering the poll questions……

The only person in our family that won’t admit that Steve is Anda’s favorite is Anda. So the Royal family has arrived and Ante has already started school. There was a cake my mom used to make that we called “Steve’s Cake” and that is how we knew that he was coming home for the weekend from Laurier. Anda told me today that she is going to make me a cake and I was quite impressed till I looked in the oven and realized that she was making “Steve’s Cake”. Nice try Anda, once a favorite, always a favorite.

You know who your Besty is when she can call you and say “you sound normal”, that is what Lydia said to me on the phone today. I guess I may have been a little miserable lately, but now that I am 14 weeks pregnant I no longer have morning sickness that lasts all day. I should have used that excuse for why I have not blogged. I had two great pregnancies with Niko and Ante, never felt sick or anything. Almost from the first day of this pregnancy I have felt nauseous, Goran wanted to know where the other Teta Aud was and Marica say I am mean. Well they should try giving up smoking and drinking at the same time and feel like barfing twenty-four seven.

Congrats to Kuma Ana and Johnny who became the proud parents of baby Ivan on Tuesday. As you can imagine Kuma Ana was the BEST looking pregnant women I have ever seen the only place she gained weight was in her pupa, I knew she was having a boy. If you know Ana, you know she weighs 110 pounds in a rain storm well, she gave birth to a 10 pound, yes 10 pound 53 cm baby boy. I saw him yesterday and he looks ready for baby food and is adorable.

Congrats Julie for becoming a Teta for the first time and congrats to Kum Joe for becoming an uncle for the first time……

You would think after being in labour for 15 hours and giving birth to a toddler that she would look at least a little tired, not Kuma Ana. She looks like she is ready to go to a club, she has a little pot belly that most of us have after a night of drinking. Yeah I admit I am jealous………

Once again Congrats Kuma, your Kum Ante can’t wait to meet the baby……

Croatian Fever

copy-of-dsc03007.JPGIs there a Croatian out there who is working or going to school tomorrow after 2pm, I doubt it. Not that most of our husbands aren’t rushing home today to see the Portugal Germany game. They can always justify it by telling us how important this game is in deciding who we play next. I don’t remember soccer excitement like this since 1998 when Croatia placed third in World Cup. Just like when they played Germany last week , I have all the confidence in the work that Croatia will kick the Turks ‘guzice’…..

Can’t wait till the morning to get up and fill the cooler with drinks and ice, though honestly, I am still a little queasy when I see Grapefruit coolers since I have consumed more of them in the last 11 days then in my whole life. That’s okay, I will take one for the team.

Up until yesterday I thought Mr Big from STC was soooooooo cool, yesterday I changed my mind, ‘NOBODY’ is cooler then Slaven Bilic and hence his new nickname. On his wrist you will find the holy bracelet that so many of us wear and in his pocket you will find his cross. Besides the fact that I can’t get enough of Croatian Soccer I just can’t get enough of “Mr Bigic” (Besty gets the credit for this name). I can’t write enough about this man…..

For those of you that don’t know, Anna Granic is now a certified personal trainer, a sad misli da je pametna. Last night we were at soccer at Norval and she comes over while we are minding our own business drinking our coffee and says to me and Besty, “a few of us are gong to start jogging during Soccer are you girls interested”? After my initial shock of the interruption of coffee time I told her “da se vrati kad ima nesto pametno pitati”. Sorry Kuma but please soccer time is for socializing…..

Who is more excited then me today, NOBODY!!!! I woke up this morning and niko said, “mom are you going to see Sex and the City tonite”. pametno djete!!! Well for those smart ladies that are joining us if you have time, we are meeting at Montana’s for drinks, Cosmos of course before the movie at 8:00 for the rest see you at the show!!! For those of you who are not coming, not my problem ’sto ste stupid’…..

SilverCity is located off the Burloak exit, go South then turn left on Wyecroft road…… did I mention I am sooooooooo excited.

Blame it on the “Coolers”

We had the greatest day yesterday, it was the longest Soccer Game ever. The guests started arriving at 10:30 am and the last ones left at 9:00 pm. Seven kids and 2 adults fit very comfortably in the new pool. No comments please about the way Croatia played, the important thing is that we got ‘3′ points. There was funny stuff going on all day but three comments stand out in my head and the only response was to “BLAME IT ON THE COOLERS”

We were watching the game and ‘Fab at Forty’ gets up and says when did Niko Kovac get a yellow card. As she walked away we realized that she saw the captains band on his arm and waited till she sat back down to roast her.

A couple of hours later and a few more coolers, Susie is walking outside and comments to ‘Fab at Forty’ that she didn’t know that sunflowers could grow in the ground, Fab says ‘of course they can’ and Susie says I thought they could only grow in pots. Fab at Forty looks at her and says ‘what else is in pots but soil’. Susie asks her not to tell us but ‘Fab’ gave her up.

A couple of coolers later on separate occasions ‘Besty” and ‘Ive’ both ask me how whether “paprike” grow out wide and how high and do you have to tie them up with sticks like tomatoes. Niko ‘D’ says “jadna ta bastja” I want to see it when they are done since they don’t even know how peppers grow.

Yesterday I got a message from Donnie and could barely understand it because it sounded like she was hyper-ventilating. I called her back and it wasn’t much better. Fab at Forty had just told her that Fred suggested they drive to Normandy for the weekend and spend the night in a castle. You would think that I was talking to a six year old and her biggest dream in life was coming true.

I wish I new at Halloween, I would have bought er a life size princess costume, she will have to settle for a Dollar Store Tiara and wand. If anyone out there has a princess dress or plastic glass slippers please ‘javi se”, The agreement is they have to call Fred King and he will call them princess.

As per usual yesterday I walk to the school to pick up the kids, I always get Ante first then we go get Niko. Ante ran ahead of me with his friend Evan to the park. Niko came out and asked me if he could go to the park for 5 minutes. Ten minutes later Niko comes back and I ask him where Ante is and he says he did not see him, keep in mind the park is 25 feet away. I start looking around the area thinking Ante is hiding but can’t find him. One of my neighbors starts helping me look for him and I send Niko to the end of the school to see if he is around the corner. No sight of Ante, I am not a panic bug so I have this idea that he is on his way home. I call Goran and tell him to head toward the school and he states that Ante just walked into the house. Ante said he didn’t see me so he decided to walk home from school by himself. He then asked me if I was going to beat him like a step child but I was too relieved to do anything.

Incredible Story

In 1986, Peter Davies was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University .

On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Peter approached it very carefully.

He got down on one knee & inspected the elephant’s foot & found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully & as gently as he could, Peter worked the wood out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot. The elephant turned to face the man, & with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments. Peter stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, & walked away. Peter never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.

Twenty years later, Peter was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenaged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned & walked over to near where Peter & his son Cameron were standing. The large bull elephant stared at Peter, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.

Remembering the encounter in 1986, Peter couldn’t help wondering if this was the same elephant. Peter summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing & made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant & stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Peter legs and slammed his stupid ass against the railing, killing him instantly. Probably wasn’t the same elephant.

The Olympic size Pool

Last week we pulled out our blue on ground pool, we washed it and prepared to set it up when Goran noticed there was a hole in it. The mice had a field day in the winter, not to self, keep the pool in the crawl space. No problem, I say, I will go buy another one. The last words I remember out of Goran’s mouth were not to get a bigger pool and ruin anymore of his grass. Lets face it, nobody is more anal than the Hrkac sisters about their lawns, so I would be ruining “my” grass.

Off to Zellers and I see the perfect pool, a little bigger I am thinking but Goran probably won’t notice. The first thing he noticed was that it came with a ladder and just shook his head. I was thinking it’s only a little bigger so I grad the measuring tape and measure the previous hole and thought wow the last pool was a ten foot radius, glance at the box and realize this one is 15 feet. Again Gogo just shook his head, I am thinking, 5 feet how much bigger can that be. On Sunday Goran was taking a nap and I asked Fab at Forty to help me set it up, ooppps. The pool is 50 percent bigger then the last one and is 4 feet deep. Gogo wakes up and again just shakes his head. He must have been very dizzy by the end of the weekend constantly shaking his head.

Needless to say I have a fantastic 15 feet by 4 feet deep massive pool in my backyard filled and getting warmer from the solar blanket I also had to purchase because otherwise the 60 000 gallons of water would never be warm enough to swim in. I told him he will Thank me when he comes home from work and can go swimming, again a shake of the head.

Regardless my new pool can hold at least ten people comfortably or me on a floater and the kids….

To Dada for having the line of the weekend. We were playing cards and Andrea told Marica “she was her own MC” I almost peed myself laughing. Marica of course as usual reminded her who was funding her. Good one Dada……

Baka Anda is back fresh from Croatia and Paris, for a 71 year old she sure does travel. She was full of stories but her favorite was running in front of Vicka and having a private session with her in Medugorije, I don’t think even the Pope can impress her after that. Needless to say we all got a token from Medugorije but Fab at Forty got a bag full.

The Loblaws Incident

So I was shopping with the boys at Loblaws Superstore and I am lined up at the self check out counter. Any moron knows that there is one line up and you move forward every-time a station opens. A station opens and this woman that came up after me goes through and starts putting through her items, I can’t say anything because I am on the phone with my Besty so I wait. After she is finished I said, I just wanted to point out that usually there is one line up and next time she should wait her turn and not bud in front of other people, myself and the lady behind me. She turned to me and told me I was too busy yakking on the telephone and ‘ripping’ something out of my child’s hand, so she went ahead. Most people would have left it at that, not me (or Annie or Sylvia) so I told her she was F-A-T and told her that perhaps she should have left the junk food at the store, she called me a bitch, oh well.

Just not being able to leave good enough alone, I made sure I went out the same exit as her and scanned the parking lot for her and found her going to her call so I called out ‘Bye Fatso’ (she weighed about 180) and she yelled out for me not to be such a chicken and say it again, so I did, ‘Bye Fatso’ and then spelt it for her F-A-T-S-O she then got in her car and told me she was going to go over to the cops in the parking lots and tell them I abuse my children. I guess I could have let it go, but no so I asked her if she knew what C%%% spelled, I am way too lady like to actually say the word.

On the way home Niko asked “mom, are you going to blog about the FAT lady”

For the past two Thursday nights Dada and Ivana have been coming over to watch Grey’s and Lost. Last night I came home from work, yes work and the two of them were watching the kids. I started up the stairs to put the boys to bed and Ivana yells out “Teta Aud you have a big ass, that’s where Andrea gets it from”. Can someone with “pamet” javit se and tell little Miss Ivana that you never and I mean “NEVER” tell a girl she has a big ass….. I think Ivana has spent far too much time in Siroki Brijeg and thinks that is okay. Then Dada and her admt that they sampled my , yes, my PB & Ch Ice Cream.

If you don’t know who Ivana is you may recognize her dressed rather provocatively in the attached photo!!!

P.S……. Ivana, I always thought that was the only part of me that wasn’t big!! I guess I won’t be wearing those pants anymore.

P.S.S. I think Diana B. is my new favorite niece…….

Girls Night Out

Every few months, but no often enough the original four go out for dinner. Last night Wendy, Chris, Besty and I met for dinner in High Park. I often forget that Christina is one of my funniest friends, the stuff that comes out of her mouth can make me pee myself. Last night she was telling us that she went shopping in Trix (not sure of the spelling), she told the sales girl that she realizes that the store is for fourteen year olds but she needs a pair of jeans. Here comes the line of the evening…..

Much to her horror Chris looked down at the sales girl’s jeans and realized that her jeans were sooooo tight that she was “ONE STEP AWAY FROM A YEAST INFECTION”. Good thing that my mouth wasn’t full because I would have spit all my food all over her blouse.

Great evening girls, next time we have to do it sooner.

Last night in fear of fast approaching Bikini Season Dada, Fab at Forty and I went for a long walk. We were discussing many topics and one that I found funny was that Fab at Forty and Donnie were out for dinner Sunday night with our friend from NYC and he commented at what a good time he had at my BBQ and asked Donnie who was funnier, her or the Grammar Nazi. Of course Donnie commented that it was her but Fab at Forty said Grammar Nazi can tell quite the story.

I love Blogs subjects like this because it gives you all the opportunity to join team Donnie or team Grammar Nazi. I am not publicly taking sides but I agree with Fab at Forty, Grammar Nazi tells quite the story, she is tied with Lillian/Visnja in my books!!!

Tick, Tick Tick, we are getting closer!!! The new and final date to get together and go see the movie of he year is Wednesday June 11th. We are going to Burlington to the new SiverCity that has a room that seats about 100 in comfy seats. The tickets are $16.95 but lets face it, it’s worth it. Teta Marica mentioned the other day that she watched an episode and thought it was funny, (she still can’t sit near me). The tickets are not on sale for that week yet but I will keep you updated as soon as you can purchase them.

So at my barbecue on Saturday an “OLD” (you figure it out) friend came over, I was with him in Croatia in 93 and haven’t seen him since the soccer tournament in 2001. He proceeds to tell “Besty” how good she looks and tells me that I have gained weight. Why are men sooooo stupid, do they know that weight is a subject you do not bring up with women unless you are telling her how good she looks.

I was horrified, and imagine, I had just shared my Ice Cream with him. I later told he shouldn’t talk because he has quite the paunch!!!

Yesterday I received an email from him and he told me he had a great time and to invite him again next time I have a barbecue. The only was he is getting an invite is if he comes with a “TUB” of my favorite Ice Cream and lends me his condo in NYC. It will cost him about $40 but my forgiveness does not come cheap!!!

You all read about the Ice Cream Incident last week, on the weekend we had a barbecue where everyone came with something. I have to say THANK YOU to “Grammar Nazi & Fab at Forty” they were nice enough to each bring me a liter of my favorite Ice Cream.

This meant sooooo mch to me because you can’t buy it everywhere, they had to go out of their way to drive to Baskin Robbins. I love you guys. The only problem I ran into was serving dessert when Teta Marica offered everyone at the table some of ‘MY’ ice cream. Yes, I admit I only gave them a soup spoon full to try with a bit of Peanut Butter because even though my husband doesn’t think so it makes the Ice Cream.

Every once in a while I trek to Baskin Robbins to get myself some Peanut Butter and Chocolate Ice Cream. This is the ONLY ice cream I like and it’s $8 a quart. I went out last week and bought some and put it in the freezer for when I had my craving. The other day I was walking by the recycle bin and I stopped in my tracks when I saw my empty carton of Peanut Butter and Chocolate Ice Cream sitting there empty in the bin. I almost had a heart attack, you need to understand Goran doesn’t care what he eats as long as it has sugar in it. I was sooooo made that he ate my ice cream so I was giving him hell and he had the nerve to tell me that he picked out the peanut butter and tossed it in the ’smeche’. He tossed out the peanut butter that is what makes the Ice Cream.

Note to self, hid your ice cream in the bottom of the freezer!!!

Since the beginning of my Blog I have heard many comments, some like it some don’t. For you that like the Blog, Thanks and enjoy, for those that don’t , don’t read it, even though you can’t help yourselves ( I know Annie, the grammar, the grammar….). People try to tell me what to write and what not to, its “a few thoughts from Teta Aud”… that means I can write what I want and not to worry I know what is appropriate. Some people ask why I don’t go private, if I did then people would not be able to happen upon it and enjoy it.

Just want to send a shout out to Marica G. who happened upon the blog, I hope you are enjoying it.

There are different ways to find the Blog but don’t confuse me with the other Audrey, I am Aud. One day ‘Mikey’ was in the “Garaza/Cafic” and typed audreys blog into Google and up came a surprise site. I know that all of you are now going to go there out of curiosity. You are going to pee your pants laughing when you see what is there.

When we were in NYC sitting in Madonna’s condo I saw my first advertisement for this new product. We both said that looks cool at the same time. When I got home I went to the ‘As Seen on TV Store’ in Erin Mills Town Center to buy the Ped Egg.

Don’t waste your $16.95 including tax it sucks, you might as well take a renda to your feet. I think my feet were dryer after using this product then before starting, that’s not saying much since I only started getting pedicures because my Besty was always pointing out how bad my feet were.

Yesterday I arrived at the shower and excited to see my Kumce and the first thing she said to me was that she didn’t like me. Later she told me I was a ‘Piggy’ and tried to push me on the floor. Maybe I should carry a pack of gum in my purse like Marica because she seems to like her. After going out for a smoke I can in and she was hitting 4 boys that were smaller then her and then managed to trip over her own feet and start crying so she softened up a bit and let me carry her back in.

After spending most of the day giving me dirty looks and rolling her eyes at me I finally won her over when I promised to buy her a Webkinz. Maybe someday she may decide she likes me but until then I have Baby Marija…..

The Birth of a Princess

Over the years my friends have gotten pregnant and given birth the many children. I was always excited and happy for them. Out of all of our friends I have never been sooooo happy as when I found out Vele and Jagoda were expecting. After 14 years of marriage, Jagoda gave birth to the most beautiful baby girl yesterday. I have to give her credit she had to do it without an epidural, not because she is stupid and wanted to be a hero but because there was not enough time. When they told her there was no time for an epidural she told them she wasn’t going to do it, like she had a choice. Our new generation kills me, half the women I know say I am not going to take the epidural, like somehow I am going to think they are some amazing women. No I think you are ’stupid’ I don’t go to the dentist and say why don’t you go ahead and drill I don’t need my mouth frozen. What kills me is that they try and be hero’s then half way through when they can’t squeal anymore they ask for the almighty needle. If I were the doctor I would say, “NO” you wanted to be a hero so be one….

The amazing part of Jagoda giving birth is that we had no idea what she was having, most people I know find out what they are having and there is no surprise. When I get the phone call that the baby was born there is no surprise because I have known for months what they are having. I could have 10 kids and I wouldn’t want to know, the is the “ONLY” guaranteed surprise in life.

I am sooooo excited about the birth of Vele and Jagoda’s baby and I can already tell that she is going to be a great mom. As for my Kum Vele I don’t think the sun can be as strong as the grin on his face yesterday when I saw him.

Have I told you guys how excited I am for them!!!!! The only feeling that could be almost exciting as this one would be for Croatia to win Euro Cup!!

The ‘BEST’ Shower

Let’s face it, when we get a Bridal Shower invitation none of us get too excited. The thought of sitting in a room with a hundred women eating too much then battling their way to the desert table is the worst way to spend your Sunday. Yesterday I went to the “BEST” shower ever, instead of playing the typical game of wrapping the bride in toilet paper they had a casino. Being a ‘Back Jack’ ho, I loved it. This was a great idea and therefore I did not connive and scheme to try and sneak out of the shower. Thanks Vesna, it was a great treat.

Sex and The City

Thanks God, as Anda and Ante say…. to Newfoundland. Thanks to my satellite dish I just finished watching Oprah three hours earlier then Toronto time. It was amazing, they showed some clips from the movie and I can’t wait….. Big was on the show and the four amigos, for those of you who think there are other things more important then this Oprah episode, not to worry I PVR’d it, love that PVR. For anyone who needs a walk in the past before the movie, not to worry I have the whole series that you can borrow….

Mark it down Thursday June 5th we are going to the movie. Opening night will be to hectic, there is a theatre in Burlington that holds 100 and I am going to reserve seats if possible. First we meet for COSMOS then we watch the movie, Marica can come along as long as she agrees not to sit beside me.

First I would like to Thank Susie and Anna for making my Blog their public forum but I guess since I wasn’t writing somebody needed too.

So I talked to Baka Anda this week and she told me how four days in Medugorije she said “to se nemoze upisat” of course imagine Anda in Heaven having finished 4 days of straight praying. I am sure she prayed for everyone and their dog. She met Matt Granic’s uncle because he takes Vicka around and of course she was in house where “Big Mary” has her apparition’s. She spent time with Kuma Anna’s aunts, she had a great time catching up I am sure they spent the whole time talking about the Church opening.

I asked her about my cousin Ruza’s wedding, she married a guy from Prolog , Ljubuski. My mom said it was nice and to her surprise “tamo nije tako zapusteno”. I am glad Anda thinks that the “Wide Hill” is such a metropolitan.

Just a note to all, the cast from the best show ever “Sex and The City” will be on Oprah and on Friday it is GMD, he will take her on a tour of his newly renovated home with “ROBO BRIDE”. I took the Facebook test on what character are you on Sex and The City and I was Carrie (SJP). No surprise Christina Bosnjak was Charlotte. Kuma I think you cheated because I expected you to be …….!!!

The Potato Famine

That is what is going to happen in this house. Tonite we peeled 200 pounds of “KROMPIRE”, you are probably thinking wow, how many of you were there? There was exactly three of us, good thing I called Sylvia at 3:00 and asked her to come to the Center to help. I figured that I could round up some mothers from Croatian school to help for the Banquet. Nobody came, I even sent out an email to which NOBODY responded. Everyone has an excuse for why they can’t help. Don’t bother commenting that I should have called you, they announced at church on Sunday that they needed help Friday and Saturday for the Banquet. The other lady was just someone who called Fra Stipe to see if they needed any help.

I am very disappointed in everyone, everyone loves to brag about how much they love the Center but go underground when it comes to rolling up their sleeves and helping. Thanks to everyone my hands look like my Pok. Strina’s with that permanent dirt etched into them and Goran will not eat a potato for at least a month because I cannot bear to peel another potato for a long time.

Sisterly Support – Or Not!!!

Every three months 10 of us get together for what we call “SEKA NIGHT”. It was my turn to host this past Friday, not to kick Anda and the kids to the street I decided to host at “Fab at Forty’s” house. I decided on a Mexican theme and chopped and diced all afternoon to prepare fresh Guac, salsa, fajitas, Tacos and Salad. The night was fabulous with typical laughing, yelling, burning (sorry Annie) and fun.

The typical email went out within days thanking the hostess but what I noticed was a few of my seke were giving me credit on cooking. They acted (not Donnie) very shocked that I could cook and then do such a great job.

For the record, “step-sisters”, I cook all the time and have been told it is good. You are all lucky that I am not one to get offended and you just get another meal from me in your lifetimes!!!!!

They call me the “Center Nazi”. Some people may take offence to this comment but not me. My father was one of the original men to write a cheque for the deposit for the “DREAM” Anda had a spaz, because 30.5 years ago to write a check for $1000 then come home and say ‘make sure it doesn’t bounce’ was huge. At the time they probably made about 10 cents an hour (just kidding), had 5 kids and a boater nephew from Croatia living with them. Ante didn’t care, we ate, slept and breathed the Center. I actually remember my parents taking hot water from Oakville to Norval because there wasn’t any there and the house had a foot of soil in it. Don’t bother asking Sylvia about this, “Mapparently” she doesn’t have a good memory and only recalls the past two years of her life if we are lucky.

Every weekend was spent doing tedious tasks while cleaning and trying to level 160 acres. Boy at that time I wished I was a “CAKER” and did normal things like stay home and watch cartoons. The first mass was held in what is Fra Stipe’s office today, the kids sat on the stairs since we couldn’t fit. We were chastised and ridiculed for going to mass at the ‘farm’ and till recently people still called it a ‘farm’. Yes it was a ‘farm’, it still is a ‘farm’ but only WE can call it a ‘FARM”. How funny is it that that little ‘FARM’ now has the biggest Church ever built, not bought, in the Diaspora. Yesterday we made the cover of Globus under the heading “CUDO U NORVALU”. Like I always say, kids should not be held responsible for their parents ignorance, yes I blame the parents for teaching their kids to mock another church. As for the teens and adults that mock the Center, they are just ‘uneducated peasants’.

Over the years, we had our share of problems but most were overcome. Today the Churches have come together and now support each other. Funny story, not to long ago “Grammar Nazi’s” son “Jofis” was asked by one of his Croatian friends, ‘what religion do you guys practice at Norval’ this again not the kids fault but his mid-thirty year old parents. Let us learn from our parents mistakes and teach our children to be aware that a Church is a Church and we are all Croatian and should respect one another’s parishes.

The church opening was on Sunday, this was supposed to be the most important day of my life, besides on good days, my wedding and the birth of my children. I have to admit I was a little disappointed not because of the beautiful church, not because of the estimated 3000 people that attended but because I missed it. As I listened to mass in the outer hallway, I looked around and most of the people I saw in the hallway were Center people, these people did not get to witness the blessing of the new Church because as usual we always put everyone else first. Yeah, I hear you, be happy there were so many people, but I am SELFISH. This is the day we dreamt about for over three decades and honestly not to witness it was a big kick in the ‘PATCH’. People more mature then myself have been saying be happy it was such a success, blah, blah, blah……

THANK YOU to the people who stormed the doors to get a seat before 1:00 when they had planned on allowing people in.

THANK YOU to all the young people who parked their “zlatne guzice” on klupe and didn’t get up for older people. Man that is just plain ignorant, even if I ever had a seat on Polnocka, I always got up for someone older than me.

THANK YOU to the parents who felt their children deserved seats instead of putting them on their laps so more people could sit. Maybe then, 7.5 month pregnant Andrijana wouldn’t have a hemorrhoid on her butt from sitting on the marble floor and Marko wouldn’t have put out his back helping her get up.

THANK YOU to the people who blocked the entrance and refused to move so more people could get into the front of the church.

THANK YOU to the people ( I saw you) who called the Center a farm but managed to get a seat and a view of the Blagoslov.

THANK YOU to the people who felt they could save seats and refused to let people sit even though they arrived earlier.

THANK YOU to the people who didn’t attend mass (I forgive you if you tried but couldn’t get in) but went straight to the buffet and ignored the Donation Box.

THANK YOU to the lady who swore my children’s “MATER” while they were trying to get a piece of chicken.

THANK YOU God for letting me bite my tongue that day and hide my disappointment in alot of people. Fortunately my tongue is back.

THANK YOU to the people in the Church who now when to kneel, I guess I will learn this Sunday.

THANK YOU to men like Ivica Zdunic who has donated both financially and physically to get us our dream a little sooner.

If I have offended anyone with my THANK YOU list, you should probably keep it to yourself because I was being as sarcastic as humanly possible. At the end of the day, it is Thursday and I got a good dose of Father Nick and Fra Ljubo and I am very happy. The Church is gorgeous which I dare anyone to deny and we should be very proud. Sunday I will attend my fist mass ‘inside’ the Church where someone will tell me when to kneel. It will take some getting used to after being in the hall for over 20 years but I am very excited. On Tuesday as I looked around the Center I realized we still have allot of work to do, but we WILL do iot one step at a time.

I have a new appreciation for being the “Center Nazi” because on Sunday as we sang “Boze Cuvaj Hrvatsku” I cried because I knew my dad and the other Center men were watching us and smiling, they may have passed on before the opening of the Church but they were there in Spirit.

The Birthday Weekend

katacomm.jpg To start today I would like to wish my Kumce Kata a very Happy Birthday!!! Should of wrote it yesterday but a little busy. So I decided to let Niko decide on his own Birthday this year. After pondering the choices he decided a boys sleep over would last the longest. The boys started arriving at 4:30 on Saturday. There were supposed to be nine in total but we ended up with six. To my utter shock they were great, boys really don’t need much, PSP, Nintendo DS, Gameboy, Play Station 2 and Wii and they were set. Besides kyboshing the attempted wrestle mania they were fantastic. Boys are pretty low maintenance, just leave them alone with pizza, pop, chips and candy and they are fine. The evening was perfect until 3:00 in the morning when I put in a movie for the final two and fell asleep.

So my “seka” Teta Nena, is dropping Marko off at the party and Anda, yes Anda asked her ’sta ce te ti i Joza radit veceras bez Marka’ I guess Anda does not know Irene well because that is not the type of question you ask her unless you want an honest answer. Most people would say of I don’t know not Teta Nene she says we are going to a pub then I rented a movie then we are going to have sex, yes to Anda. At that moment I prayed an earthquake would swallow me up into the ground.

So I found out today that one of my recent antics can be compared to a Seinfeld episode. The episode where Elaine sends out Christmas cards with a photo of herself not knowing her nipple is showing. This weekend “Fab at Forty” was showing one of her friends the pics from New York and the girl pointed out that my nipple was showing in one of the pics. Sylvia dared me to blog about myself, well of course I will admit I had noticed the pic before but had hoped that nobody else would. Needless to say there is no attachment of this pic on my blog because with my luck it would end up in Glas Centar.

fredskidsparis.jpg First, great news today from Paris. Fred’s kids are spending March Break in Paris, I remember March Break as a kid and it was not in Paris. Tessa went to the doctors and got a clean bill of health. They are on their way to a Castle two hours outside of the city to spend the night. The closest I got to a castle on March Break was going to the Center.

All of us that are married to Boaters know about the Boater Conspiracy Theory. They are convinced that everything that goes wrong is somehow the governments fault. The Tsunami was the “Americanci” testing a missile and “Sida” is population control and I am sure you can all give endless examples of other theories. Today I heard the best one, I was talking to a friend this morning who had told her father that she had been at Whole Foods and he said that “Nasi Ljudi” opened the store in Oakville because they are slowly poisoning the rich Christians in Oakville because “nji ima pre vise” and “Nasi Ljudi” are trying to take over. If you know our family then you should know what code word “Nasi Ljudi” if for. PS… it does not mean Croatians.

With no excuses, even I am dissapointed in myself for ignoring my Blog. Good news, I have upgraded, I am spending $7.99 USD per month for your entertainment enjoyment. I have more memory space so all my pics will stay in memory, I really feel bad for the newbies who go back to read from the beginning and can’t see any pics. If I have to go to a new level I may sell clanske carte!!!

Hope everyone had a great Easter, we had the Newman’s over and Victor even bought a new tie for the occasion. I was a little dissapointed that only Teta Anda got flowers but hey who am I to complain. Maybe someone should have brought me flowers as they were enjoying my Paprika Juha and two kinds of salata, my contribution to the meal. I either cook or Anda cooks, there is no room to mix my ideas with her Janjetina !!!

Fab at Forty decided to treat everyone with a $80 bottle of Grgic Hills wine which Victor said wasn’t worth it and Anda added Coke to it to turn it into a $80 BAMBUS. God Bless us peasants. Niko was a little sick and my husband is a Communist so Ante and I were off to mass that must have had at least 20 kids under the age of 2. They are sooooo cute at that age, I think I may have felt a little tingle in my “Maternica”, why do I have to carry the baby, can’t someone just donate a newborn to me.

dsc01199.JPGThis week is Family Birthday week at our house. Yesterday Steve’s daughter Nadia turned 3, seven years ago my little angel Niko was born and it is our sister-in-law Danjela’s B-day today.

So, I get up and do my usual routine this morning then I open my hotmail to find 36 messages in my inbox, my junk is a seperate folder. I opened up the mail to find the Alilovic seke arguing with Vrlic and John Alilovic. Girls a piece of advice don’t argue with Alilovic, he will always have the last word and you have balls arguing with Vrlic, he is your only family member with a house on the more. I would be very nice to Vrlic or it will be long hot visits to Ljubuski.

I saw my Ante’s Kuma Ana last night, she is 4 months pregnant and I asked to see her baby bump. I am surprised she didn’t fall over backwards trying to create a gut to look pregnanat. Ane, it’s good to know that like Jagoda you will start showing around 7 months, these two take the cake on the best looking pregnant women I have ever seen. Yes, I am jealous. Wow Ane, you have won two of my awards, best wedding dress and now best pregnancy. I know, I love you to.

Off to the Grocery Store to buy meza for Niko’s party tonite, will be back later today, I promise……

Good Friday at the Newman Ranch

Good Friday started with a Seafood (yuk) lunch at Besty’s house, Besty, BFF (ella), Andrea and I proceeded to depart for Put Kriza at Norval and the left the boys at home with their fathers and too many bottles of wine. The walk was great because it was pretty warm in the sun, plus it helped that every 50m somebody complimented me on my fabulous bangs, just an update, this week I got them trimmed. The biggest complement came from Susie Alilovic, the best kudos always come from a hairstylist. Congrats to Susie on the coming of baby #3. It was quite funny that my Besty was at Norval doing the walk but we didn’t see the The Grammar Nazi who credits herself for being such a Center Nazi.

Next stop the Newman Ranch for Victor (Vidaks) annual Good Friday Fish Fest. “Mapparently” he tried to cancel but Marica insisted that he hold tradition. Dinner was great and God Bless Teta Nancy who made sure to complement me on my bangs every half hour on the hour. I think everyone is curious about the blog because I kept mentioning it. These family gatherings are always fun because we learn new things.

Marica couldn’t wait to drag me out for a cigarette to tell me how during her 12km put kriza pilgrimage in Oakville she was transported in a Limo from one church to another by no less than the manager of Oakview Funeral Home. Well I am sure it took her less that 1 km tell him what a fan she is of his business, she complemented him on the new fasada on the outside of the home. He told her that the third station of the cross just happened to be in front of Oakview and if she needed to tinkle to come on in. Marica’s dream to be hit on by a Funeral Home Manager.

I have to go to work for a couple of hours, if only this blog paid but log on later because I am going to reveal a family secret concerning Drunk Danijela, even though she threatened me!!!

I remember the days when you couldn’t wait to get up on Easter morning and get that horrible tasting 1 pound .99cent solid bunny that came in a plastic bag that Fred would save and auction off 3 months later and I would bid on it, freezer burn and all. For breakfast I would eat a hard boiled egg that was boiled in onion peels that was slightly brown in order to feel that we colored eggs. I always envied my Canadian friends that actually got to color eggs.

What the f%ck happened, today I was out buying Kinder Eggs and other chocolate shaped as super heros that ended up costing me $60. That was for just for kids at church. For my own kids that would not appreciate the chocolate I was out buying Webkinz and for Max, for Ela and Julia I purchased Hanna Montana wigs and lip glosses for others. Maybe my mom was smart $5 on chocolate and free onion peels for coloring eggs.

Maybe the kids aren’t the problem, it’s us stupid parents that have raised the bar.

sexcity.jpg The big day is approaching, not Dan Drzavnost, not Besty’s wedding anniversary, it’s the premiere of the Sex and The City Movie. The other day I discovered that the best show ever made is on everyday from 12-1 pm and 9-10 pm on Cosmo TV. I guess I can get our my box set but it is always fun to be surprised by the next episode they air on TV.

sjp3.jpg Anybody who knows me knows I am just a tad obsessed with the show and would go to the other side for Carrie Bradshaw, oh yeah and Doris Dragovic. It took SJP 18 months to get the other girls to do the movie and now rumor has it they have inked part 2. Can’t wait to see what is happening with the girls since we last saw them.

sjp2.jpg Hold on to your carape ladies, I am going to rent out a private theatre in Toronto to watch the movie. As soon as I get more details I will let everyone know. We will need a minimum amount of ladies but it should not be a problem since it is the Best Show ever written. (don’t know if I mentioned that I am a teeny bit obsessed with SJP) I will find out if we can have Cosmo’s during the show. More details to follow.

madge.jpg Rumor has it that the Queen and her hubby (what’s his name) have split. Last night I heard her new duet with JT and Timberland, loved it. Ok fine, I love everything Madge does. Not to fear Madge turns 50 this August and has a body of 18 year old our girl will bounce back.

julija.jpg I arrived at ‘Baby Marija’s’ Birthday party on Saturday, late of course because after sitting on my ‘FAT’ ass for 3 months it is time to begin working again. You know my ass is getting fat because Goran has come up with what he thinks is a new cute little nickname “my little elephant”. We know have a complete gym in our garage so now I have a new spot to put down my coffee cup beside my ashtray. Back to the party, I couldn’t wait to see my sweet Kumce and get a great big hug and kiss… What the F%ck, as soon as she saw me she told me to go away, go home and get lost. At first I thought it was cute and kept going back to see if she had softened up but it was the same response every-time. This really hurts since children always love me. Before I left I gave it one more shot and told her that if she wasn’t nice Kuma would blog about her, well here it is complete with a pic of her new attitude.

Age has no bearing when it comes to my blog, don’t mess with Teta Aud because I will come back and get you on the Blog. I guess from now on I will always carry my camera to get those shots that are better buried.

Even with 28 feet of snow we are all gathering at Marica’s house for a get together for the King. The “Grammar Nazi” tried to bail but Marica would not hear of it. As I am sitting here listening to “Molo Hrnic” I am just listening and venting what I can write and cannot. I guess I can write that Marica is red like a “Paprika” from Gin and Tonic, I guess she figures its better than eating and getting weight comments. It’s nights like this that you realize how great family is, they are there for you in good times and bad. I have noticed that everyone is on good behavior and watching what they say because they all have warned each other that nothing you say is sacred from Teta Auds blog.

Just a quick shout out to “Fab at Forty” who is most likely snowed in in NYC till Monday. You poor thing, I can think of worst place to be like here where we have shovelled snow 4 times today. Good luck getting in your driveway.

Steve arrives home tonite and Anda is sooooo excited that I think she forgot to do her morning prayers. She has moved out of the master bedroom with the most comfortable bed into the spare room to ensure that Steve sleeps well while he is here. Last night Niko told Ante not to dare touch “his” Uncle Steve because he has his own, Uncle Fred. Since Fred calls Ante ’soft skin’, Steve should come up with a nickname for Niko.

Funerals Pt 2

img_3986.JPG Lat night, the fourth Funeral in the last month was held at Glen Oaks in Oakville. As per usual we picked up a very eager Marica. No sooner did we walk in and she changed her arrangements from last week. She now wants her service held there because it is a beautiful site. She will still be placed in the Mausoleum at eye level. After we paid our respects we sat down and ‘Traffica’ walked by so I told her perhaps she should start the process of deciding who will eulogize her. I even suggested that she write it herself so that no detail will be left out. When coming up with candidates she said it should be one of the “SEKE”, I suggested Irene because I feel she will be the strongest and least blubbery (no offense Teta Nena). Marica said not I think I want Annie because she will cry but it will be well written and the grammar will be perfect. There you go Annie, you should sit down with Marica soon and start writing. “Nikad Neznas” I suggested to Marica that perhaps she should speak with Fra Stipe and apply for the job as the Cemetery host when the Centre gets its own resting place. She would be perfect for pre-planning because she could advise people on the perfect ceremony.

I’ll admit, when I discovered Facebook I was hooked, loading pictures and surfing. A few weeks later and my inbox stuffed with Facebook junk I was over it. I have stopped loading pics because I figure that I can send them to my friends, no need to make a public display of personal photo’s. I received a phone call today from a friend that said she saw an unflattering photo of me on Facebook. Come on people, the rule is never put up a public photo that you would not want posted of yourself. I looked at the photo and I have to admit, I look like a 50 something over suntanned piece of leather, I have seen the pic before and it didn’t bother me until I heard about it from other people. I have tons of unflattering pics of friends over the years but would never dream of displaying them. Friends from Down Under

Stan Barac is a dear family friend ( you have all heard Barac-Hrkac family stories) who got married a moved. This past fall we had the opportunity to get together and take a walk down memory lane. Lets face it we are, instead of the walk 12 km to school stories, I lecture my kids on “do I need to tell you what I had when I was small. Saturday was the perfect example, my Besty’s (if you don’t know who this is re-read my blog from the beginning) son Max was crying because Teta Mira yelled at him, when my Besty asked him why he was crying he said because he felt bad. In true Boater Mama style my Besty proceeded to smack him on the ass and tell him “I’ll give you something to cry about”. Love it, next step is the weather channel and knowing what the temperature is in every major city in Canada.

For those of you that don’t already know, seven of us went to NYC for “Fab at Forty” birthday celebration. Here are just some of the juicy details……

Thursday:

img_3975.JPG,Marica, Andrijana, Fab at Forty and me took off for NYC. After arriving in the Big Apple we headed to Gramercy Park where our friend Jure’s fabulous condo. We dumped our stuff and headed for the Bus Terminal, yes, the bus. We were headed out to New Jersey to visit Matt and Marija Granic. They have a great condo that has the most fabulous view of the NYC skyline. On the ‘bus’ ride we discussed that we were all getting kind of hungry and hoped there would be some food. We walked in and I smelt no Sarma so I told the girls we would grab a bit on the way home. You could imagine how happy we were when Marija started bringing ‘Meza’ out of the kitchen. If you know me at all, you know ‘Meza’ is my favorite meal. Trying not to make pigs out of ourselves we started slow. All an outsider would have seen was that at any given moment there were at least four hands reaching for something. It probably wouldn’t have been so bad until Marija, the 6 ft gorgeous Ford model reached over and put a carrot and a green pepper on her plate, she didn’t even take any dip to go with it. I was mortified and disgusted with myself. It was time to stop so I got up and proceeded to smoke instead of eating another bite. We had a wonderful visit and headed back to the city for some cards… hpim0995.JPG

The day was typical, a bunch of women let loose on NYC, shopping, shopping and more shopping. After shopping we met up with my Besty, Mira and Donna in Jure’s condo for Rum and coke’s, not that the three of them hadn’t already hit some hot spots for Martini’s. I found them in the park with Lydia holding the key close to her heart like it was gold. They proceeded to lock me in the park then point our all the squirrels around me. You all know I am petrified of those little varmints. I call out to Uma to unlock the gate but she did not respond.

Later that evening we met up at Barna with Matt, Marija and Madonna for Fab at Forty’s official Birthday dinner. After dinner compliments of Matt we were picked up by a limo and delivered to Time Lounge. Matt is such a gentleman that when you need to go tinkle, he walks you to the washroom. They evening was great, we had bottle service and too many sweet shots that i was feeling the next day…

The first time I stood I realized that the pounding in my head was not going to go away with a couple of aspirin, a little nap and a few aspirin later I felt better. We headed out to meet all the girls for breakfast, well brunch. After brunch and more shopping I headed back for a nap. We headed out to have dinner is Astoria at Rudar which literally is my dad’s basement with panelling and all. The menu is Croatian from the 70’s but the food was good and the atmosphere was fun. Then the moment of truth, we went to Scorpio and I found myself. From the moment I walked through the door and smelled the stale smell of tobacco and booze. I knew some of the girls wouldn’t last past the second round. I was right, two rounds later, Andrijana, Marica, Mira and Fab at Forty exited. The rest of the evening was out of a dream. Indoor smoking, lots of rum and coke and Croatian music, what more could I have asked for. After yet more rum and coke, Teta Aud somehow ended up behind the bar making a drink then on the bar for a photo opt. I would have posted the pics but my Besty has them. Like every great night it had to come to an end. When I went home I couldn’t wait to go to sleep but this is very difficult when the room is spinning. Finally I gave up and went to the washroom, stuck my fingers down my throat and prayed to the ‘Porcelain God’. Can’t you just picture this 37 year old mother of two barfing in a toilet while Marica and Andrijana listen. It was worth every heave!!!

There is nothing better than being woken up for church three hours after barfing your brains out. Feeling surprisingly well we headed off to the Croatian church for mass. Half way through Fra Stipe Renic’s way too long sermon, I looked over and saw Marica doing the subway nod, yes, she was asleep. I laughed thinking, if anyone should be sleeping it should be me. After we had coffee with Fra Nikola and headed out, said our goodbye’s to Matt and Marija and headed to Times Square to discover Kosovo had been recognized, they had a great street party which brought back some great memories of Croatia back in the day. Sylvia and Marica went to walk around and I again, went home to take a nap. It is not easy to be a lush when napping is such a necessary part of the afternoon after drinking. We went to a great restaurant to eat dinner at which I refused alcohol, well technically I tried two different drinks but couldn’t do it. We went back to Madonna’s for coffee and I discovered that she is my twin, we enjoy all the same things lounging, smoking and the same cheesey TV shows.

With only the Hrkac sisters left we took a carriage ride in Central Park and walked around the City. After a while Madonna claimed she was going to go bak to do some work so I tagged along and we smoked and watched more teenage TV. A cab ride later to the airport we discoverd out flight was delayed 2 hours, then another 75 minutes.

NYC was such a great weekend, to go away with a bunch of your girlfriends to relax, laugh and have fun is truly a blessing. Though there are many more stories which you will hear in time I decided to only tell the ones of myself being a ‘glupaca’ so as not to upset anyone.

12 Hours and Counting

When do you say enough is enough, don’t ask some of the sisters that spent 12 hours together on Saturday night. We gathered at 1 pm for a wonderful lunch in honor of Nika’s confirmation. At 4:30 we headed for the church till 6:30, at this point you would think it is time to pack it in. Not the sisters, after mass we headed to Mira’s house and decided it was okay to stay until 1 am. It was not until Mira’s eyes literally started closing that I realized it was time to go home. Thanks for the great day we had a blast.

Just so you know if your mother is trying to take credit for your cool name, don’t let her it was my Besty and me that named you. If you have any bad habits that is because your parents went down south and left Ive and you in our care. We tried to spend the week teaching you the importance of a balanced diet with included the two major food groups, a coke and a smoke……. Love you Teta Aud

Funerals

To our “sistas” this week who lost their uncle our thoughts and prayers are with you. Nothing makes Marica’s week like a nice funeral. We hadn’t even taken off our coats today when her first email went out to describe how nice the service was. Kudos to Fra Vinko who knows how to make it short and sweet, unlike a priest who recently put Marica to sleep with her head bobbing and all. Marica has now decided to be placed in a Mausoleum and would like to be at eye level. She decided to cc my Besty in on the email to ensure all her wishes are met. Good thinking with including Lyd since she seems to weasel her way onto the “Sucut” couch. I suspect she is not leaving it up to Jozo since he once said that he was going to bury her face down in case she wakes up, she will be digging to China.

Fab at Forty

newyork.jpg Someone once said that 40 is the new 30, well “Fab at 40″ is a great example. Last night “Fab at 40″ was grocery shopping at Sobeys and a man came up to her to complement her on her coat. After the initial shock because she is bent over with back pain she realized he was speaking to her. He then asked her what she was buying and what she was cooking. See, even at Sobeys, gentlemen think it is appropriate to try to pick up chicks!!!

bangs.jpgWho knew, recently I took a trip to my “Hair Stylist” and told her I needed a new “Look”. She said ”bangs it is” …. 2.5 hours later with great highlights, layers and “BANGS” was born a new women. They definitely made a huge improvement. Every time I looked at a picture of myself, I was all forehead. The bangs are a hit, we toasted them on many occasions in NYC and I will be keeping them. It really did not take long for Heidi Klum to follow in my footsteps but lets face anything looks good on Heidi, except for her very unattractive hubby. As Lainey says, good looking plus ugly makes cute kids. PS Thanks Vera !!!

audtv.JPGWell when my Besty Lydia introduced me to Lainey I instantly got hooked. Lainey is my inspiration, I love her column so much that it is the first thing I do after my morning coffee and smoke. For those of you who do not visit Lainey, GET WITH IT !!! My Besty and I discussed how funny it would be to start up a Blog on our community. After some funny mental posts it was decided that I could never do this and have any friends. I would never dream of dissing my friends unless it was to their face but could do some serious damage on “people I just know”. We enough of that maybe some day!!! Though I know that Annie will have a field day with my grammar, maybe someday I can put her on payroll for now forgive my run on sentences. I am still learning to navigate the site but will begin shortly with the NYC trip and all the little secrets that came with it.

My Besty chuckled everytime I mentioned the Blog, she thought I wouldn’t do it, well she thought wrong.!!!
